Chorus Director – Kento Stratford

Born in Izumisano City, Japan, Kento Stratford is a multi-faceted musician whose artistic practice spans a wide range of musical activities. In demand as a keyboardist, composer, conductor, and educator, he appears regularly in concerts and workshops in and around the Toronto area.
As a composer, Kento’s works have been commissioned and performed by a wide range of artists and ensembles, including most recently: HAVEN Trio, Sirius Piano Duo, Odin String Quartet, BIPOC Voices, Concreamus Chamber Choir, and Theremist Thorwald Jorgensen.

As a music director, Kento focuses on collaboration with local organizations and artists to reinvigorate communities hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. This work includes establishment of community-oriented programs such as free concerts and, most notably, the ‘Sing! Etobicoke’ program: free, weekly group-singing sessions to provide regular musical and social outlets for seniors in the Etobicoke area.

In addition to his role as Music Director at Graceview Presbyterian Church, Kento was engaged as Director of The Queensmen in 2023. He holds a BMus degree in piano performance and composition from Queen’s University, an MMus degree in composition from the University of Toronto and is a Colleague of the Royal Canadian College of Organists.

Kento is an excellent, patient teacher and an all ‘round nice guy.
