Chorus Director – Kento Stratford

Born in Izumisano City, Japan, Kento Stratford is a multi-faceted musician whose artistic practice spans a wide range of musical activities. In demand as a keyboardist, composer, conductor, and educator, he appears regularly in concerts and workshops in and around the Toronto area. As a composer, Kento’s works have been commissioned and performed by a wide range of artists and ensembles, including most recently: HAVEN Trio, Sirius Piano Duo, Odin String Quartet, BIPOC Voices, Concreamus Chamber Choir, and Theremist Thorwald Jorgensen.

In his work as a music director, Kento has been focused on collaborating with local organizations and artists to reinvigorate communities hit hard by the Covid-19 Pandemic. This work has included the establishment of various community-oriented programs such as free concerts and, most notably, the Sing! Etobicoke program: a set of free, weekly group-singing sessions aimed at providing regular musical and social outlets for seniors in the Etobicoke area.

In addition to his role as director of music at Graceview Presbyterian Church, Kento was engaged as director of the Queensmen of Toronto Male Chorus in 2023. He holds a BMus degree in piano performance and composition from Queen’s University, an MMus degree in composition from the University of Toronto and is a Colleague of the Royal Canadian College of Organists.
