We welcome you . . .

. . . to The Queensmen of Toronto Male Chorus. We hope you will find the Chorus a great place to enjoy singing music you like to hear, meeting new friends and supporting the community. Below is a short description of how the Chorus works, some details of costs and what to expect if you are planning to join.

Rehearsals:
We rehearse every Tuesday evening from 7pm to approx. 9.30 at The Village of
Humber Heights, 2245 Lawrence Ave W, Etobicoke. Map of the location is here.
We generally meet in the ‘Town Hall’.

Our Background:
The Chorus started life in Etobicoke in 1949, and became The Queensmen in 1953 in recognition of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. We continue as a strong organization, and meet weekly from Sept. through May. We perform six or more times annually, including major concerts at Christmas and in spring.

Our Repertoire:
Our repertoire may best be described as classic “popular” from the mid-20th century to the present day. To make sure we enjoy the music that we sing, everyone participates in the selection of music.

Our singers:
Members have varied backgrounds, and ages range from young to less-young. Some have sung in school choirs; others delayed singing until their later years – as life got in the way in the meantime! Everyone shares a love of singing and enjoy the friendships we form.

Our Fees:
Annual membership is $300. Total payment is due in September, or can be split 50/50 in September and January. We waive dues for the first year for new members under the age of 25 in full-time studies, though they will be expected to provide appropriate performance uniform as required.

Our Uniform:
The Queensmen’s performance uniform consists of black shirt, trousers and shoes; provided by each member. The Chorus supplies coloured ties and pocket-handkerchiefs.

Probationary Period:
There is a four-week probationary period during which the Music Director will determine the suitability of a candidate member’s voice. It also gives a prospective member the chance to ‘try out’ the Chorus for a while before making a commitment. We expect that active members will commit to regular rehearsals and confirmed concerts (reasonable work obligations and vacations excused). Also, members agree to put in appropriate ‘home practice’ of current repertoire. At this time, fees will become due and uniform will be required ahead of the first performance.
